About Us

Ibernetics, LLC is a small research and development company with a big reach that creates practical and educational tools based on the Unease Modulation Model (UM Model) created by Dr. Joseph Arpaia. Our goal is to empower individuals to transform their own lives and the lives of those around them in ways that improve health and performance under stress.

At Ibernetics, we use our knowledge of the UM Model to create practical training resources for managing stress in a variety of situations. Using a combination of biofeedback technology and therapeutic techniques, we are able to address the unique components of stress and how they interact with each other. We offer leadership coaching, corporate consulting, meditation classes, professional workshops for the medical and veterinary fields, and online course development that we license to training organizations internationally.

Dr. Joseph Arpaia

Meet Dr. Joseph Arpaia

I received my B.S in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology and my medical degree from the University of California, Irvine. My medical specialty is psychiatry and I have maintained a private practice for over 20 years in Eugene, OR.

My clinical and research specialty is focused on helping people deal more effectively with stress and stress-related conditions. I developed the Unease Modulation Model over years of clinical work with his patients. By integrating heart-rate variability data and mindfulness techniques into his practice, I am able to address stress at a physiological level.

I have practiced meditation for over 40 years and authored the book Real Meditation in Minutes a Day, which includes a forward from His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. In 2017 I began collaborating closely with Dr. Judith Andersen from the University of Toronto to refine the UM Model and apply it to her program for improving the performance of police officers in high-stress situations. Since then the iPrep program, using the UM model and heart rate variability apps, has been demonstrated to significantly reduce use of force errors by police officers.

I enjoys teaching people how to explore their mind, develop their mental abilities, and use those skills to help themselves and others. I becomes deeply involved with each Ibernetics client and works closely with them to develop materials that suit their unique needs.

Meet Chiarra Arpaia

I have over ten years of education experience, including both adult learning and at the undergraduate level. I started tutoring students while I attended the University of Oregon Clark Honors College and continued that work at Columbia Basin College. There I worked with students in a wide variety of subjects, led group sessions, created study materials, and developed a test anxiety and study skills program. I am also on the board of the Indie Sellers Guild Foundation, where I create online educational material for creative indie sellers, to inform them of issues in the industry and their options and rights.

I am also Dr. Arpaia’s eldest daughter. When I first began working with him in 2018, I realized that many of his mental training techniques he had taught me as a child, in such a simple way that I didn’t realize what I was learning. It has been fascinating to revisit this material as an adult and work on how to teach it to adults, as well as see how I can use it with my own son. It is an honor and a privilege work with my dad and help him share the expertise he has been developing my whole life.
